Media goes to School
Since 2013 the series of teaching materials Media goes to School (German: Medien in die Schule) offers numerous teaching suggestions, lesson plans and didactic tools on digital media. They support teachers while guiding young people to use their favourite media safely and competently, raising awareness of risks and empowering pupils to possible courses of action. The materials are published under an open CC licence and can be downloaded and used free of charge. A wide range of topics are covered: safety online, youth media protection, hate speech, disinformation and “fake news”, opinion forming, machine learning and much more.
Media goes to Schools is a joint project of the FSM and Google Zukunftswerkstatt in co-operation with the Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle Fernsehen (FSF).
weitklick
Children and young people are increasingly coming across false reports and disinformation of all kinds online. Since 2020 the weitklick project supports teachers in sustainably integrating the topic of disinformation in the digital space and its effects on society as a whole into their lessons. Teachers can find six comprehensive online courses, videos and a diverse collection of materials at weitklick. The aim is to promote critical thinking as well as media and news literacy.
Until January 2024 the project was financially supported by Google.org. In this context, the project offered regular training courses for teachers. In 2023, weitklick reached over 820 participants with 37 events. Even after the official end of the project, teachers and educational specialists will continue to find helpful resources for media education on disinformation at weitklick.
